Thanks fur the quick response, Angel. Yir a wee smasher!! Looks like Maggie's site his been neglected fur a while. Parts o' it are no jist workin right. (A bit like masel' !!!) Ah'm no a hen, by the way, Ah'm a son. Born in the Toonheid, raised in Pollok, spent the first two years o' merried life in the world famous Gorbals, the next five in the much snootier but totally unknown Langside, then beetled off tae Canada. Been here ever since. Jist in case yir interested in wher the 'Ode Tae Glesga' came fae, here's the wee note Ah've been tryin tae send tae the oorweehoose site.
Thanks again fur takin' the time, Angel. Cheers, Keelie Canuck.
P.S. Ah hope yir no dae'n anything too Scottish wi aw they sheep yiv goat doon ther!!! Here's ma note...........
Dear Sir, Madam, Shuggy, Malky, Senga, or whoever; Hullo ther!! How's it gaun, Chinas??!!! Jist became aware o' yir magic wee website thanks tae ma pal Margaret. (Naw, yi don't know her!). Pure deid brilliant and a waft o' mawkish nostalgia to us yins who've been livin' on the Western edge o' Canada for the last 38 years, strainin' wir eyes tryin' tae spot Japan oan a clear day. (Nae luck so far by the way!) Ah know whit yir thinkin'. Who the hell's this chancer??? Well, naebody special, except.....................Ah know who wrote the 'Ode tae Glesga'!! It was written in the late 60's by a well known (at least THEN) Glasgow folk singer by the name o' Adam McNaughtan and recorded on his cassette named 'Words, Words, Words'. This, together wi' a second cassette entitled 'The Glasgow That I Used To Know', wis recently reissued in a two disc set of CDs named, 'The Words I Used To Know'. (Sold, incidentally, fur the price o' wan CD!!) Yi should buy it! It's goat some wizard stuff oan it like, 'The Comin' O' The Wee Malkies', 'The Glasgow Sunday School', 'The Yellow on the Broom', and 'Oor Hamlet'. Ye'd also get the tune tae 'The Glasgow That I Used To Know', which wid be very nice! No tae mention an introduction tae wan o' Glesga's true folk artists.
McNaughtan wis an English teacher (at King's Park Sen. Sec., I think) fur twinty years, then quit tae become a bookseller. He his (hid?) a bookstore called Adam Books at 47 Parnie Street, behind the Tron Theatre.
Ah could wax eloquent oan this topic fur some time, but if yi really waant tae know mair jist enter either ADAM MCNAUGHTAN or THE GLASGOW THAT I USED TO KNOW in the 'exact phrase' line o' that Google search engine thing. Yi'll be amazed at whit turns up!! Ah widnae kid yi!!! In the meantime, Ah'll be visitin' yir site oan a regular basis fae noo oan (suitably armed wi' a large bevy), so keep up the patter.
Cheery-bye the noo, Keelie Canuck.
P.S. Fur obvious reasons, Ah huvnae done a spell check oan this!!!!
